The “high five” is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as a noun describing a gesture of celebration or greeting in which two people slap each other’s palms, usually with their arms extended over their heads and also as a verb meaning to greet a person in this way.
There are a few stories about the origin of the high five, most of which have been traced back to sports in the late 1970s.
Less than 40 years later, the practise of “high fiving” has become ubiquitous - especially in North America, where many people have exported it to lands abroad.
So what are the rules of etiquette when we want to use this high five movement? How? What are the best techniques? And when is it not appropriate?
