Come and celebrate all things fabulous about the 1950s, at a special late event at the Museum of London, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain. The late event, packed full of glamour, dance, music and culture, takes place on the 11 August 2011 from 6.30 - 9.30pm.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their fifties finery to transport them back to post-war London. Performing live swing and rhythm and blues, Laura B and the Moonlighters, will be providing the soundtrack for jive and bop dance lessons taught by the London Swing Dance Society. Visitors can complete their fifties look at hair and make-up stalls that will transform them into a fifties pin-ups and trend-setting London designers, Tatty Divine, will be running a retro jewellery making workshops.
One of the evenig’s many treats includes a special appearance by the Broken Hearts DJ’s. They have created a fifties inspired blog, featuring their favourite music from the decade, and why it appeals so to them. Those perusing online are given the chance to contribute their favourite fifties songs through Museum of London’s Twitter or Facebook. The top choices of these will be combined with those of the Broken Hearts to create a modern Londoners representation of the Fifties London soundscape (or…the playlist for the night will combine the Broken Hearts choices and the public’s online contributions.
If that’s not enough, Museum of London curators, Beatrice Behlen and Cathy Ross, will be giving talks on alternative fifties clothing and jazz bars in 1950s Soho. There will also be fifties themed British food a drink to make the evening go down that much easier
