Scratch and Sniff: scent and the movies

Posted By admin On October 21, 2010 @ 5:28 pm In Diary Dates | No Comments

Noses, get ready to clear out your airways… Hosted by fragrance enthusiast Odette Toilette, [1] Scratch+Sniff events have been set up as the fragrance equivalent of wine-tasting to introduce more creative ways of responding to our sense of smell.

This month: From the golden age of the silent film to the contemporary blockbuster, Scratch + Sniff will bring alive the sights and sounds of Hollywood by immersing ourselves in the fragrance of the movies.

What does a Western smell like? Or a Sci Fi film? What perfume would a Femme Fatale wear? And can we recreate the smoky, booze-ridden smell of a 1940s MGM studio? Get ready to sit back and enjoy some iconic movie scenes, before transporting yourself into the setting using little more than fragrances and your mind. Featuring James Craven, perfume archivist of independent perfumery Les Senteurs, who will be your host in this technicolour tour. Ruby Slippers provided to help you home to Kansas afterwards.

When: Tuesday, October 26th at 7.30-10pm

Where: The Book Club, 100 -106 Leonard Street, London, EC2A 4RH

How much: Tickets are £12 per person in advance. Book directly on [2] Scratch + Sniff’s handsome website.

“How could I have known that murder can sometimes smell like honeysuckle?” - Double Indemnity, dir. Billy Wilder, 1944.
